Preparing for Your Volunteer Role

According to a recent LinkedIn data report, over 80 percent of working professionals feel anxious before beginning a new job or volunteer position. At Seager Clinic, we want you to start your experience positively by having a smooth transition into your new responsibilities. Here are a few tips to help you prepare for your medical volunteer role.

What to know about Seager Clinic:

Here at Seager Clinic, we are focused on providing the best possible care to the underserved, and we couldn’t accomplish this mission without the help of our amazing volunteers! We currently have over 200 medical volunteers serving as physicians and providers, pharmacy technicians, dentists, nurses, medical assistants, phlebotomists, pharmacists, front desk, Spanish translators, and other positions. Volunteers of all skill sets and interests are needed to help the clinic thrive. Wherever your skill set or interests lie, we can find the perfect fit for you here.

Fill out the New Volunteer Form:

Once you’ve decided to volunteer, the New Volunteer Form is the best place to begin. The form will help us find the best position for you at the clinic. Some information you will be asked to input includes basic contact information, a copy of your current or most recent professional (medical/dental/nursing/pharmacy) license number or certificate and expiration date and a photo of yourself for the volunteer board.

Volunteer Orientation and Shadowing:

Once you’ve filled out all the necessary information, you will meet with our Clinic Manager, April, to begin training. In this meeting, you will go over essential procedures and best practices for volunteering at the clinic. You will also shadow another medical volunteer in Ogden r in the same position on your first day to help you feel confident in the tasks you will be completing. If any questions come up, our more experienced volunteers and our Clinic Manager are here to help you!

Other Important Information:

The key to a good volunteer experience is consistency. The volunteer shifts are 2:45-6:00 PM Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. You will choose the days that work best for you and you can decide how frequently you want to volunteer. Once you commit to a regular schedule, it’s vital that you show up on time and stay for the entire duration of your shift. Every day in the clinic is an opportunity to help new patients in unique situations. The more frequently you come, the more familiar you will become with the different processes we offer.
